Catalog > Angora Care
Angora rabbits are beautiful and amazing. They are normally a very calm friendly rabbit with no problems being held for hours.
The Angora rabbit does however, need special care to avoid disasters. Please remember these beautiful animals have a true'''wool coat''. How would you like to be in the hot sun wearing your winter coat? Not pleasant, so they needs shade and air flow.
Angoras need to be trimmed down in hot and humid weather. Unless you have them in a controlled climate.
I personally have massive barn fans in my rabbit rooms and box fans. This keeps them comfortable. We also cut them down to almost naked. I have to say a cut down angora is quite a site but, they are happy.
We also have to clip most of the wool around the Genital and butt area to avoid nasty flys from attaching themselves to looser poop and laying eggs. Thats a nasty site. We have only seen fly strike twice in 30 years and its ugly.
Cage size. These can be very large rabbits so you need to give them room. I let mine out to run around a 20x16 ( foot not inches) floor for activity. Cage sizes are 36x30 and i prefer 24 high but most cage 18 high. Cages must have floor support to help support the bunnies and cut out changes of sore hock.
I also have 48 inch wide cages..
